  • Dog Tired

I know I'm suppose to be working but I just had to share this funny story:

My son Jordan has been cleaning up his dads scrap metal pile (three cheers for Jordan!!!) and with the price of metal these days he's done pretty well.  On his last trip they unloaded the metal stuff and he had an old tire in the back of his pick-up, the guy at the yard said "hey we take old tires too" "really how much money are we talking about" "Oh $2.50 to $3.00 each" .  Well that sent bells off in Jordans head, he drove the 20+ miles home and went to the local tire store where they have a large stock pile of old tires

and proceeded to buy and load up 25 of them for a buck a piece. He drove the 20+ miles back to the scrap yard and the guy says "great that'll be 75 bucks will you be paying with cash or a check?"

     Embarrassed 1

Needless to say he drove the 20+ miles back home took the old tires back to the tire store where he had to beg the tire store man to take them all back and give him his $25 bucks back. Folks if you live in a town of less than a thousand people you can believe everyone knows you and your business, he'll be a long time living this one down.  At least he gave the local breakfast club something to chuckle about.... He learned that getting rich quick isn't all that easy and what it is to be Dog Tired!

Jordan drives a Big ole Ford Pick-up that might on a good day get 10 mpg.  That's about 6 gallons of gas at $3+ a gallon, so this venture cost him about 20 bucks and a half day of labor.  Maybe I'll get that scrap pile out of the back yard yet!

    hey..........ilym

  • That's too funny but I feel kinda bad for him. He was trying! It's a lesson learned to be sure. You have to give him credit for at least trying.....Yes, I know how in a small town everybody knows your business.....I grew up in one! My dad always knew what I did before I got home!

  • Bless his little heart!!! He sure thought he had a good thing going!!!! I have to give him credit for trying. Still it makes for a good story. I'm sure it will be one to tell for awhile!!!

  • Whitney & I shared this story with Wesley over dinner tonite.  I laughed so hard that tears came to my eyes...I could imagine Jordan's face.  When I think about that sweet ol smile of his it just totally makes me happy.  I've got scrap metal I need to be working on too, but it's way down on my list.  HLW has these huge coils of things (very huge & heavy) that he told me were full of copper.  I'm tempted, but think I'll wait until it's a little warmer to tackle them.  It'll take my truck & some good chain to even pull it around where I can strip it.  You KNOW that I love you more.

  • You have to give him credit for trying. Judi
