"Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind,
only to completely forget what that purpose was?
Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.
Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered
that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as
an event boundary in the mind,
separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.
Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room
and prepares a blank slate for the new locale."
It's not aging, it's the damn door !
Whew! Thank goodness for studies

wow .... I like that explanation better than I am just getting old and forgetful
Glad I can blame this damn door..then!
wait....i forgot what i was to do. let me go back in the other room where i left the thought and come back. lol
It works with the fridge door, too.
Those doors are pretty tricky! :fun:
A second story works that way for me, too -- if I go downstairs for something, I often have to stop and remember what it was I was looking for! @Roadkill_Spatula - I wish that was the case!
ohhh the door. i also heard that whatever you forgot, you forgot it because it's not important.
For me it is clicking on a post - it causes me to forget, um, forget... Now I can't remember what I was going to say. Wait! That's it - it makes me forget what I was going to say!
I like that theory. I am not getting old and senile, I am just walking through a door. Damn doors. What if a room doesn't have a door? does the theory still apply? I hope so.
LOL! So that explains it!
You eased my mind!
And if you are in a house with many doors, you're in trouble.
Of course we do also have the effect keys . Opening a door with a key (or closing it) enhances the process of boudaries.
It's never too lately to meliorate your information and your listing has me.

@Mystical2 - :sunny:Heavens No :sunny: :heartbeat:
and here I've called it "sometimers"...lol...now I know to blame the doors...I like this study...
It's perhaps why I rarely shut the doors in my house in order to not loose my thoughts "en route"
Is it the same when we start from the ground floor to upstair? :lookaround:

RYC :I googled to know more about your area . Thank you

Very funny... Glad to know it's the boundary door's fault. haha
In this post, Marsha, there is the story of a man who does not success to open the door of his truck in a parking lot
Michel
That makes alot of sense!! hmmm
Okay, I know that I do better if my wife asks me to get one item from the next room for her instead of two items. If she asks for two I forget the second one. So is that also the door's fault?
@vexations - :yes:
Ya mean I am not really senile and it is just that darn door.
Hahahahahhaha, I love that explanation! I wonder if that happens with sliding glass doors too!
Interesting. Good to know it's the door's fault!
