  • it's been rough and rocky travelin

we lost a family member last week,

    our cousin Caleb Moore,

    an extreme athlete

below is an excerpt from one news source

    Caleb Moore
In this photo taken Jan. 25, 2012 and released by ESPN Images, snowmobiler Caleb Moore smiles while attending a news conference at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

DENVER -- Caleb Moore was a Texas kid drawn to the snow, rehearsing complicated tricks on a snowmobile into a foam pit back home until they became second nature and ready for the mountains.

With his younger brother following along and constantly pushing him, Moore became a rising talent in action sports.

The innovative freestyle snowmobile rider, who was hurt in a crash at the Winter X Games in Colorado, died Thursday morning. He was 25.

Moore had been undergoing care at a hospital in Grand Junction since the Jan. 24 crash. Family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson confirmed his death, the first in the 18-year history of the X Games.

"He lived his life to the fullest. He was an inspiration," Lawson said.

A former all-terrain vehicle racer, Moore switched over to snowmobiles as a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He won four Winter X Games medals, including a bronze last season when his younger brother, Colten, captured gold.

    EDIT:

Caleb and Colten never switched to snowmobiles,

they just added them to their repertoire

most of the year they preform on quads

Caleb is actually my second cousin, this is a photo of almost all of my second cousins ( a few are my children ) taken in Wheeler, Texas at the last family reunion,

We'll celebrate his life there Thursday...

Prayers and positive thoughts for the family and safe travel are more than appreciated.

while I was visiting around facebook today I found the following on Lukes page ( he's the second cousin on the top on the far left) I couldn't find out if he wrote it or who, I googled it and nothing came up, but this is so right on....

We're always waiting for the crash. Waiting for what comes next. Waiting for fraudsters to get jailed. Waiting for presidents to be impeached. Waiting for international corps to get sued, dismantled. Waiting for unethical laws to be struck down. Waiting for the matrix to run out of batteries... or even waiting for the next bubble, hoping for hope, for the next breath.

Meanwhile, that very matrix feeds off our hopelessness. It feeds off our despondency. It feeds on our fear. It even feeds off our righteous anger.
    it's been
Some think, this can't go on. It will stop, crash and burn by itself. They keep taking part in it, even while they take on themselves the role of the loser.

Others grab their balls in their hands, and say, I cannot let this go on. It has to change. I will fight it! They keep taking part in it, becoming resolute in coming out the winner.

Although one looks better than the other, it isn't. Fighting against the system is falling into the game. The game is conflict; the game is one of negative emotions. Whether you feel fear because you think you are losing, or anger because you think the system shouldn't be allowed to win - in either case you fall into the game, you pick a side. Either you will win or you will lose.

But the game is rigged. You can't win. Not by remaining who you are. The matrix wields much more force than you have power - at least until you actually develop your power, in a way that the game doesn't let you conceive. You'll have to fight dirty. You'll have to be treacherous; you'll have to use violence. By the time you win, you'll have lost; you'll be one of them.

The only winning move is not to play.

Withdraw yourself from that fight; remove the conflict from your life. The world is as it is; there is suffering, there is egoism, there is violence, there is treachery, there is fear. Let it be, raise yourself over the muddy, heaving waters. Fly above the conflict, so that you may remain unaffected.

Then you realize your liberty. You realize your sovereignty; you don't need to be affected, and you only are if you decide to take part. Then you can start fixing yourself, making yourself whole, healthy, holy. You can work to subtract yourself of the mechanicalness of it all, of the conditionings, deep ruts dug in the individuals and the collective, over millennia and millennia. You can become a master of yourself.

Then, once you interact with the reality around you, it won't be as a machine, as a cog, as a prop. You won't be living in conflict solely because the world around you is conflicted; you'll know how to subtract yourself from outside influences, how to be your own sovereign; how to be a real actor, a creator of your experience. Instead of the affected, you will be the effecting.

Only then does the real change begin. How can you change something, how can you direct yourself, when you let who you are be defined by what is going on outside of yourself? One second you are someone; with the next changing circumstance you are somebody else.

Find your center. Anchor yourself deeply. From that stability you can go out and explore; you can reach out.

There is real truth in this; real revolution can only start from within.

Have a great weekend - start a revolution

my buttercups and snow drops are already blooming

I'm virtually sending these to lots of special people

    may they brighten your day

  • Quadrantids in Moonlight

It's cloudy here again, seems the majority of 2012's meteor showers came on cloudy days, hope you have clear skies!

The Quadrantids, which peak on the morning of January 3rd, is one of the year's best meteor showers. But whereas showers are usually spread out over several days or even weeks, most of the meteors in this display arrive over just a few hours.

You can start your new year off right, skywatching-wise, by taking in the Quadrantid meteor shower. It peaks on Thursday morning, January 3rd, with the best viewing opportunity between 1 a.m. and dawn. As always, try to observe the shower from the darkest possible location. This year there's competition from a waning gibbous Moon, whose scattered light will wash out the faintest of these "shooting stars."

    Quadrantid meteor finder chart
Not until early morning does the radiant of the Quadrantid meteor shower start to rise high. (And don’t expect to see several at once!) This scene is for 40° north latitude.
    Sky & Telescope illustration

Depending on your point of view, the "Quads" are the least-known major meteor shower or the best of the minor showers. They can be quite intense, with some people reporting more than one meteor per minute from dark observing sites. But whereas most showers are spread out over several days or even weeks, most of the Quadrantids fall in just a few hours.

So your location is critical — you'll only see a spectacular display if the shower's radiant is high in the sky close to the time when the most meteoroids are hitting Earth's atmosphere. For 2013, Canadian meteor experts Margaret Campbell-Brown and Peter Brown predict peak activity around 13:00 Universal Time (5:00 a.m. PST), which favors observers in far western North and South America, the Pacific, and (before dawn on the 4th) easternmost Asia.

This shower gets its name from the obsolete constellation Quadrans Muralis, the Mural Quadrant, that was located in a dim region about halfway from the end of the Big Dipper’s handle to the head of Draco. That's where these meteors appear to radiate from as they arrive. Their source is not a comet, as is typical for showers, but rather an asteroid called 2003 EH1. Dynamicists suspect it is a dead chunk of a comet that broke apart several centuries ago, and that the meteors are small bits of debris from this fragmentation.

this is the only Quadrantid meteor captured by Maryland skywatcher Mike Hankey during 10 hours of photography, but it's a doozy. Clickhere for a larger view.

Because the Quadrantids are so brief, and because they're only visible from northerly latitudes at the coldest time of night during the coldest part of winter, this shower isn't very well documented. There's a strong suspicion that the Quadrantids vary a lot from one year to the next, but this might just be a statistical fluke due to the relatively small number of reports. That makes your observations particularly valuable. See our article on Advanced Meteor Observing and the International Meteor Organization website to find out how to prepare a scientifically useful report.

  • You know it don't come easy.

Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues,
And you know it don't come easy.
You don't have to shout or even leap about,
You can even play them easy.

Forget about the past and all your sorrows,
    The future won't last,
It will soon be over tomorrow.

    It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.

    It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.

I edited out all the negative stuff from last nights post, it was quite a bit and I was ashamed of myself when I went back and read it over, thanks Michel Fauquet, ILYM ...I decided long ago to be finished with the negative, but it creeps back and gets hung up in your brain if your not careful... Be careful out there

There are Blackeyed peas and damn ham hock in the crock pot, the collard greens are simmering on the stove top, they are however mixed greens and seasoned in the can...I'm not making cornbread again, I don't like cornbread, I don't like peas and greens either but then again cornbread isn't on any list of new years things I've read...BLT's for lunch however was a great idea on my part...who don't do bacon?

    Happy New Year Mornin Glories

  • A delightful last day and a Happy New Year!

The last day of the year has been very good!  Nash and I took the pups ( we're down to four now) to the creek this morning, we didn't see any wildlife, however I saw the otter the day after Christmas and a great blue heron the day after that. We had a g.b. heron at the creek for several years, evidently it had been stealing trout out of the stocked pond in the city park and I sincerely believe that the park board did away with it, I hadn't seen one since last July. The park board now knows without a doubt that killing any bird in the city limits is very much against the law. After we left the creek we played king of the hill on the sawdust pile and then had a go at the sandpile.  The pups were worn out after the excursion and Nash suggested we move the lawn chairs to the south side of the house where we sat in the sunshine until it clouded over and got rather cold again.

All our children have been home through the holidays, the girls left yesterday to go back to Virginia, Sarah to her home and Anna to spend the New Year with her twin, Anna has to be back in Atlanta on the 2nd to start school ~ YAY!!!  I sure do miss them though!  Jordan and Tiffany have been gracious enough to let us have Nash for three days in a row, actually we (mostly Barry) have him everyday if his parents are working. He spent the night saturday night and about 4am I awoke to him standing next to our bed saying he wanted to sleep with us, of course I picked him up to nestle him in and when I did a double order of loco rice ( that he'd eaten the night before) was throwed up right down the back of my flannel gown, and all over the floor. After we cleaned that up Nash wanted back in his bed again, only to wake up at 5:30 wanting a glass of sweet tea which he threw up all over the rug in the foyer, of course I cleaned that up because who wants to wake up and walk threw traces of loco rice and sweet tea, after that we cat napped in the recliner and woke about 7:30 and had some coca~cola, which stayed down until everyone was up and getting ready for church, Nash was already ready for church at that time and about 10:00 the coke and a tiny bit of loco rice and sweet tea were throwed up all against the living room wall and down into the lap top on the table by the wall by the recliner =/  Barry and Sarah went on to Church without us ~ no since in spreading the throwup is what I say! Nash slept in the recliner until almost 4pm and woke with no symptoms of throwing up at all, and I washed walls and laptops =/

We've picked up about 4 bushels of pecans and there are probably 2 or three more to pick up.  hummm...notice how I wrote 2 and three? is that weird or something?

I wanted to burn our brush pile tonight, but I bet we won't, Barry has been working on several projects late into the night for many nights in a row and now that he's finished he keeps going to sleep whenever he sits still for long =/.  One of his projects was t-shirts for the first ever annual polar plunge in the same city park that doesn't like GBH's.  Only they won't jump in the pond they'll jump into the largest outdoor pool in the S.E. It's spring fed so it'll be about the same temp as in the summer, which is about 58*.  They all have my support but I ain't even thinkin of jumping in the pool in the winter.

I want to spent next Christmas and New Years at the beach.

  • A Delightful Memorial Day

The Sunday before Memorial Day was our last good day at the creek for 2012

In light of the sad events and the dreary weather we're having

I though a little dash of Nash sunshine would

    be just the ticket.

not much beats a stick for having fun when your 3

    or if your 58

you can use a stick to find crawdads

or to keep the dogs at bay

and if your stick floats down the creek

you can think about it for a bit

throw your hands in the air

    and get on with life

    Have a great week
